River Wye (Derbyshire)

There are NO official access agreements on the River Wye in Derbyshire (Buxton to Rowsley).

The river is not a touring river, due to it being very shallow and rocky, and only practical to run in spate, but this full of potential hazards.

The river between Buxton and Ashford in the Water is very picturesque but is choked with obstruction, e.g. fallen trees, stretches where the river disappears under buildings, through small culverts and pipes. Many of the bridges are laced with barbed wire and steel grilles.

Private access agreements by local users exist, but are difficult to come by and are kept very private. The banks and land belongs to private landowners based outside the area.

The many Fishing Clubs together with Derbyshire Angling Association have a tight strong hold on what goes on along the river, and are very adamant that canoeing does not take place on any part of the river.

To run this river will actually jeopardise current negotiations.
